A POET ON THE LOWER EAST SIDE
Two writers from the opposite ends of the world share a meeting of the minds. Hungarian poet and translator István Eörsi journeys to New York City to meet literary legend Allen Ginsberg on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Shot just two years before Ginsberg's death, the film follows the pair as they revisit some of the beat poet's old haunts and meet his friends Peter Orlovsky, Gregory Corso and Jonas Mekas.
Ginsberg reads some of his recent and old poems
in his kitchen: "These knowing Age," "Father Death Blues," "C'mon Pigs of Western Civilization," "New Stanzas for Amazing Grace," and "On Political Skeletons."
"While being there with Ginsberg an Eorsi day after day
we could witness the process of writing and translating popetry."
-Gyula Gazdag
"...vivid, funny, and filled with all
manner ofspontaneous poetry."
